Microsoft Licenses SafeNet VPN Client

July 8, 2002 -- Internet security provider SafeNet Inc. (SafeNet.com) announced this week that it has licensed a new version of its SoftRemote VPN software to Microsoft Corporation.

The new version of the Safenet VPN client software, says the company, will support the L2TP and IPSec VPN protocols for users of Microsoft Windows 98, Millennium Edition and NT Workstation desktop operating systems.

"Microsoft customers see the value in being able to reduce cost through the use of highly secure Virtual Private Networks," says Bill Verthein, product unit manager, Microsoft Corporation. "The Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN client built by SafeNet will allow users of Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition and Windows NT Workstation to take advantage of strong VPN technology."

SafeNet says it has worked with Microsoft to deliver the security technology for increasingly popular remote access communications to corporate users who may not yet have migrated to the Windows XP or 2000 Professional operating systems.

"SafeNet's VPN Software has become the solution of choice for leading OEMs who immediately benefit from SafeNet expertise to power their secure communications solutions," says Tony Caputo, chairman and CEO of SafeNet. "We are pleased that Microsoft has chosen SafeNet to provide a strong VPN solution for their customers."
