V-ONE Supplies VPN For Law Enforcement Network

March 21, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- V-ONE Corporation (v-one.com), a leading Internet security technology company, announced on Thursday that it is supplying VPN security for The Mountain Empire Criminal Justice Information Network (MECJIN).

MECJIN is a multi-jurisdictional computer network linking law enforcement agencies in the Appalachian Mountain area of Virginia. Despite its rural location, says V-ONE, MECJIN is an advanced intranet system designed to provide real-time criminal intelligence information to participating law enforcement agencies. Users are able to access the data through dial-up and mobile connections through Web browser clients.

All the data held in the MECJIN system is supported by the capabilities of the Memex Information Engine (MIE), supplied by Memex Technology Limited (memex.com). The MIE integrates a configurable security model and unique querying capabilities to provide added value to data searching and analysis. Memex selected V-ONEs SmartGate VPN software to secure the network.

"Given the extremely sensitive nature of the data shared by MECJIN participants, we needed absolute certainty that our VPN vendor could provide the utmost Internet security," said Charles Ruble, program analyst, Department of Criminal Justice Services. "We were impressed with V-ONE's solid record for delivering quality product to other law enforcement agencies. Since deploying V-ONE's SmartGate VPN software, we have been very pleased with its flawless performance."

Among the features included in the MECJIN system are functions allowing agencies to control the data exported from each departments records, secure access to the multi-jurisdiction data through a simple Web interface and an automated process for the maintenance of the system, requiring minimal administration. Users are able to upload data using a secure connection to a central server and have access to mug shots and other images.

"V-ONE has a history of proven success with law enforcement information sharing networks and is very pleased to have been selected by Memex to secure the MECJIN network," said Margaret Grayson, V-ONE President and CEO. "MECJIN is an excellent example of the way VPN technology can help law enforcement agencies cost-effectively and securely share information and improve their operations."
